I think the major, or most populous cities in California are mismanaged...miss California anyway.

Oakland has been mismanaged for decades. If they keep electing alleged “progressives” there will be no progress to be had. Very sad

And your former police chief is now chief in N.O. Hmmmmm I wonder if the voters in Oakland are the real problem. Just my opinion, I could be wrong. As a former resident of your beautiful state I wish you luck

I grew up in the Grand Lake area and later up on the hill--Skyline High class of 68. I think the mismanagement is intentional. Consider how central Oakland is in the Bay Area, it should be some of the most valuable real estate around. If Oakland gentrified the current power structure would be replaced. One way to prevent gentrification is to make the place unlivable. High crime and high homelessness keeps the gentrifiers away. It’s so cynical even I have a problem with it.

When budgets are cut N firehouses closed is is due to lack of revenue. In the last several years, Oakland has lost a ton of tax revenue by losing the Raiders, A's N Warriors, as well as due to COVID-19. Not a fan of the Major, but don't think this is about mismanagement. Its about Oakland's decline into a 3rd class city N lost tax revenue.

You could say Oakland leadership had a hand in the loss of those teams.

I don't know all the specifics, but Warriors left because they wanted to own, not rent, plus more money in SF. Raiders N A's wanted big money from Oakland, which would have reduced $$ for other city services like fire stations
