Look, The Warriors didn’t lose Game 2 vs. the Timberwolves because of Draymond Green. And to be fair, Green is a great defender and an invaluable member of the Warriors. And by the way, Steve Kerr did a brilliant coaching job in Game 2, trying every possible combination in that bad loss. The Warriors lost because they didn’t have Stephen Curry plain and simple.
So, that’s the background to this essay. But I am still sick of Draymond Green.
Not because he was called for a flagrant foul that may or may not have been a flagrant foul. Those things happen. And I’m not criticizing Green for being two technical fouls away from a one-game suspension in the playoffs – that’s an issue for another day.
I am criticizing Green for how he acted after he got called for the flagrant. A grownup, a team player walks away and thinks “There’s nothing I can do about that. Let the game proceed.”
But Green didn’t do that. He threw a hissy fit, even though his hissy fit would not change the call. He acted like a spoiled brat, like a baby to such an extent that Kerr had to take him out of the game because he was not fit to play.
The Warriors already didn’t have Curry and now they didn’t have Green until he could get over his temper tantrum. That is not how a good player, a leader no less, acts. Kerr had enough on his hands with the Timberwolves. And now he had to play psychiatrist to Green. Not fair. Not good.
I am so sick of Draymond Green.
He’s an agitator. It’s always been a part of his game. It’s difficult to watch. I wish he’d channel that energy by just focusing on his skillful play and God given talent.
We can beat the Timberwolves. Houston was a tough, physical series. The team was on a adrenaline high after winning the series. Away from family, friends and girlfriends. So the whole focus was beat Minn. for game 1. They did that without Steph. Game 2 they were mentally done and hit a wall. New life when they come back to the Bay and the Timberwolves know that....welcome to the jungle baby!
