The Unsupportable Comeback of Kyle Juszczyk
They call him Kyle Juice. I call him Kyle Useless.
When he’s on the field, the 49er are playing ten offensive guys vs. 11 defenders, that’s how little he adds. And the 49ers knew it for a few days. They cut him to make their team younger, more effective – to make their team better. And then, shazam, he’s back.
Did he improve in his four days’ absence? Did he get younger? He probably accepted a crummy contract and that was that. But this isn’t about money. It’s about making a good team.
I long felt the 49ers needed to divest of Deebo Samuel and Useless to become a serious team, to make a statement of purpose, and they did that, and I applauded them. And then they caved – caving is what they often do. It would have been better to keep Useless in the first place without dumping and then undumping him. That would have shown the 49ers had convictions of a sort.
But by bringing him back they open their whole project to question. Who are they? What is their goal? Are they committed to getting younger? Are they in fact this weak and wishy washy? I don’t care if Useless is popular in the locker room. This is about the team, not popularity.
The 49ers let the team down by bringing him back and now this guy persists as a statement of team confusion. Talk about Useless.

Total agreement. The whiplash Juice move embodies the dumpster fire that has been the Niners entire off season, which Grant has done a smart and sustained job of chronicling. Worst part is having to watch John Lynch, the Willy Loman of the NFL, try to spin it into some kind of grand strategy, Bottom line: spoiled man boy Jed wants his money.
I'm trying to recall any instance when a player was released and then suddenly brought back. I hope the next time Lynch or Shanahan is on a questioning session this could be addressed. Perhaps it was? Maybe someone knows about this?
